2026 BYD Seal

The BYD Seal is BYD's answer to the Tesla Model 3: a mid-size electric sedan on the Blade battery, with dual-motor versions BYD rates at 3.8 seconds from 0 to 100 km/h. It is sold in Australia, Europe and much of Asia. It is not sold in Canada. BYD told Global News in May 2026 that it has not announced, approved or confirmed plans to launch passenger vehicles here, and no Seal has a Canadian MSRP, so any Canadian dollar figure for it is an estimate.

The rules that would shape its price are fixed. Since March 1, 2026, China-built EVs enter inside a 49,000-vehicle annual quota at the 6.1% rate, and the government's own report showed 16,206 of those used by October 30. An import without a permit is prohibited, so there is no 100% tariff above the quota any more. The federal EVAP rebate covers vehicles made in Canada or in a free-trade-agreement country, so a China-built Seal would not qualify; Quebec's Roulez vert has no origin rule and pays $2,000 on a new EV under $65,000 until December 31, 2026.

The car it would meet first is already here. Tesla launched the Shanghai-built Model 3 Premium RWD in Canada in May 2026 at $39,490. It is not EVAP-eligible either, which makes any future Seal comparison a sticker-to-sticker one.
