Jeep's 1.3-Million-Unit Fire Recall Tests NHTSA's 21-Month Investigation Clock

Stellantis's June 9 recall of 1.3 million Jeep Wranglers and Gladiators for an electrical fire risk that ignites even with the ignition off is, in the regulatory sense, late. The defect investigation opened in September 2024. The policy question is whether 21 months is a 'reasonable time' under the TREAD Act.
