2026 BYD Dolphin
$28,000

The BYD Dolphin slots between the Seagull and the Atto 3 in BYD's global lineup, and in Australia it has become a top-five EV seller in the under-AU$45K segment within 18 months of launch. The Canadian version arrives with the same LFP Blade battery, 340 km WLTP range, and a powertrain calibration aimed squarely at city-driving primary use with occasional highway runs.
Pricing follows BYD's export-market pattern: Australian street price near AU$36K, Canadian launch band defensibly $28K-$35K CAD adjusted for the 6.1% tariff, freight, and Canadian dealer margin. The Dolphin is excluded from the federal EVAP rebate, but at $28K the Dolphin still lands $4K-$6K under the cheapest EVAP-eligible compact EV currently sold in Canada. The math works on sticker alone.
What the Australian rollout taught the rest of the world is that the Dolphin's interior is the sleeper feature. The dashboard runs a 10.1-inch rotating touchscreen, the seats use a vegan leather that doesn't telegraph "cost-cut" the way some sub-$30K interiors do, and BYD's third-generation infotainment software is responsive enough that early reviewers have stopped flagging it. None of that shows up in a spec sheet, but all of it shows up in a Canadian dealer showroom.
