2026 Polestar Polestar 2

The Polestar 2 is the Volvo group's electric liftback, and on range and refinement it has always measured up against the Tesla Model 3 — but Canadian buyers need the status first: the Polestar 2 left the Canadian market entirely in 2025 under Ottawa's 100% surtax on China-built EVs, and it skipped the 2026 model year. It returns as a 2027, with orders opening in June 2026 and first deliveries expected in September, made possible by Canada's new 49,000-unit quota that cut the Chinese-EV tariff to 6.1%. The returning car is dual-motor only — the single-motor RWD is gone — and still rides on Geely's CMA architecture out of Luqiao, China.

Pricing for the returning 2027: $69,900 CAD for the Long Range Dual Motor AWD. On the rebate question the answer is a clear no — the Polestar 2 does not qualify for the federal EVAP $5,000 rebate. It's built in China, which fails EVAP's manufacturing rule outright (the tariff quota that lets it back in is a trade accommodation, not a free-trade agreement), and at $69,900 it's well above the $50,000 cap regardless. It is not on Transport Canada's eligible-vehicle list.

The Polestar 2's case in Canada is what it inherits from Volvo's safety culture without paying full Volvo premium. The standard active safety stack is functionally identical to the EX30's, and the body shell sources its crash-impact engineering from the same Gothenburg lineage. Three-year-old Polestar 2s in Canada are holding 60-68% of original sticker on dealer resale — middle-of-pack for the premium segment but better than a comparable Audi Q4 e-tron Sportback.
