2026 BYD Atto 3

$42,999

2026 BYD Atto 3

The BYD Atto 3 is the first BYD passenger vehicle to land on Canadian roads at a price point that competes head-on with Hyundai Kona EV and Nissan Leaf, and it does so with a battery chemistry the established names have been slower to adopt. The Atto 3 ships with BYD's LFP Blade pack — the same cell-to-pack design the company uses in its Australian and European exports — paired with a 420 km claimed range and an interior layout that feels more European premium than first-Chinese-EV.

Canadian pricing sits in the $30K-$36K CAD band based on Australian and Mexican export precedent, adjusted for the 6.1% tariff Canada applied to Chinese-built EVs on January 16, 2026. The Atto 3 is excluded from the federal EVAP $5,000 rebate under the Chinese-manufacture rule (separate from the tariff), which keeps the comparison against a rebate-eligible Hyundai Kona EV honest — buyers compare sticker to sticker, not subsidized-sticker to full-sticker. At its expected price point, the Atto 3 still undercuts a comparable Kona EV by $3K-$5K with similar range and a longer warranty.

The trade-off is dealer-network density. BYD's Canadian rollout starts with roughly 20 stores concentrated in Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal, and Calgary. Buyers outside those metros face a longer drive for warranty service than they would on a Korean or Japanese brand. For a city-driver who's home-charging on a Level 2 and uses the vehicle for commute-and-errands, that's a small operational hit. For a buyer who needs annual service in Saskatoon or Halifax, the math is different.
