2026 BMW i4 eDrive40

The BMW i4 eDrive40 is the most under-discussed sedan EV in the Canadian premium segment, and the 2026 model year reinforces that case. The i4 ships on BMW's CLAR platform — the same chassis architecture under the 3-series and 4-series gas cars — which means the i4 drives like a 4-series rather than feeling like a separate-product-line electric. RWD, 335 hp, 484 km of WLTP range, and a starting MSRP that anchors the segment below the EQE and the i4 M60 (the performance trim BMW renamed from M50 in the 2026 refresh).

Canadian pricing for the 2026 refresh: i4 eDrive40 at $64,990 CAD, xDrive40 at $69,900, and M60 at $82,900 (the entry eDrive35 was dropped). None of them qualify for the federal EVAP $5,000 rebate — the cheapest i4 starts $15,000 above the program's $50,000 final-transaction cap, and the i4 doesn't appear on Transport Canada's eligible list. This is a real change buyers should know: under the old iZEV $80K-MSRP ceiling the lower i4 trims qualified, but EVAP's tighter $50K rule shuts the whole lineup out. The i4's case in Canada is now its driving character and residuals, not a rebate.

The i4's depreciation curve is materially better than the German premium-segment average. Three-year-old eDrive40s in Canada are holding 65-71% of original sticker on dealer resale — closer to the Tesla Model 3 curve than to a comparable Mercedes EQE or Audi e-tron Sportback, both of which have shed 35-40% of value over the same window.
