2026 Volkswagen ID.Buzz

The VW ID. Buzz brings the Volkswagen Type 2 spiritual lineage into the Canadian electric era, and unlike most reborn nameplates, this one earns the comparison. But there's a catch for Canadian buyers right now: VW Canada confirmed it is skipping the 2026 model year and bringing the ID. Buzz back as a 2027, citing tariffs, high pricing, and softening EV demand. So this isn't a buy-it-today vehicle — it's a watch-this-space one. When it does return, expect the long-wheelbase North American configuration, six- or seven-seat three-row layouts, and the same 91 kWh pack VW uses in the European ID.7.

On the rebate question, set expectations now: the ID. Buzz will not qualify for the federal EVAP $5,000 rebate. The 2025 lineup it's based on ran from roughly $80,000 to over $90,000 CAD — far above EVAP's $50,000 final-transaction cap — and nothing about the 2027's positioning suggests it will dip under that line. The 800V-class architecture supports DC fast charging up to 200 kW (a 10-80% in roughly 26 minutes), competitive with the Kia EV9, but the Buzz's appeal in Canada has never been about being cheap.

The Buzz's case, once it returns, is a family-and-cargo combination almost no other EV offers in Canada. A Kia EV9 is the closest competitor on seating and range; a Rivian R1S is closer on cargo and capability but far more expensive. The Buzz is the EV that finally answers what an electric replacement for a Honda Odyssey looks like — Canadians just have to wait for the 2027.
